Smaller moist hide good or bad idea ?

So I had bought a medium moist hide my leopard gecko when making the tank and I don't think he can get in it. He's a juvenile only a few weeks old (still has his stripes). When I put him back in the tank from playing with him he ran right over to the large hide and he tried to climb it but I don't think he can. So what I did was I took the lid off of it and sat the lid on a damp paper towel taking the entire bottom out of it. It made it a lot smaller and it looks like he can get in there. I know when he gets bigger I'll have to put the bottom back on. But is this a good idea of bad one ? Should he just learn to scale the larger one ?

I've moved this to the correct sub forum; please try to post in the correct sub forum in the future.

Your plan sounds as if it could work. Another temporary solution is to make a new humid hide with the hole on the side instead of the top. I use baby food containers (the plastic kind, not the glass) for my hatchlings with paper towel on the bottom.

I'm sorry i didn't know if I should post it in that or just the general forums. And I might do that as well. How long before he gets big enough to get into a Zoo med reptishelter medium.?

Depends on growth rate. He'll be able to climb in easily once his front legs can get up to the entrance, maybe sooner if he is a good climber/jumper. Mine are pretty good at getting where they want to go.
