Smallest colony sizes?

Im interested in breeding mealworms and crickets. I know what to feed them and all sorts from other threads.

Got a bin for the crickets with some egg crates, and a long plastic tub for the meal worms.

Just wondering how small can a colony be and still survive and reproduce etc..

Thanks

well it depends on how many you are gonna be feeding from it.

without feeding i would say you only need a few crickets or mealworms to start, and eventually (months - years) you will have thousands.

i started with 100 mealworms, and im on my fourth generation and ive got probably 200 beetles right now, plus another hundred or so mealworms, plus ive been feeding regularly.

My colony is extremely small & was started last year ago from a shipment of 1,000. I have the large mealies in a beetles & pupae in a Country Crock bucket. The small/invisible mealies are in a brownie tray. The feeder mealies are in a 6 cup Tupperware dish. These are still going just fine & feeding 4 leos.

Thanks!

Getting 500g mealworms and 500 brown crickets tomorrow.

Gonna be feeding them and trying to get them to start a happy family / food supply.

I started mine with only 50 worms and I add new ones every 2 weeks, I am feeding 2 adults and 8 sub-adults with some mealies left over
