I have a Blazing Blizzard male, and one of his eyes has a different shaped pupil. I have red up on a thing called "snake eyes". Is it possible to have it in only one eye? Or is this a defect?

Patrick. thats a georiouse gecko man, It is very possible to have different degrees of eclipse eyes, snake eyes I've seen them with just a tiny speck and the babies come out with full eclipse eyes, so i'd consider it a snake eyes and its still snake eyes even if only one eyes like that they carry the eclipse gene, hope this helps ya,

Adam

Pat, blizzards often have some degree of snake eyes in one or both eyes. This is different from the eclipse gene found in RAPTORs, though. Shard doesn't have eclipse in his background - his dad does have a little bit of snake-eye in one eye. Great eye picture, by the way! :)

Thanx for the response Adam, it totally helps me get a better understanding of how its passed down. Thanx! :main_thumbsup:

Yes it is possible to have it in one eye, and no it is not a defect... it's a big plus in my book. I love solid eyes. Nice Leo.

Thank you, I actually really like his eyes, they are eerie lookin.

Oh Nancy thank you for chimin in! Right after I posted it, I said to myself...SELF....you shoulda emailed Nancy! :D:D

Thank you for the info on his background. Does this mean that since his dad had it, and he has it in one eye, that he could pass this down?

He sure could, it is very common in blizzards, but it seems to be kind of random. We don't know how is passed along. The eclipse gene works like a simple recessive (although solid vs snake eyes again seems to be random with this gene). It may not be visible in non-blizzard offspring, though.
