Sniffing

On a few occasions I've taken out both of my leopard geckos at the same time (they're normally housed in one tank, but separated so they have NO direct contact) they will often sniff each other. Is this similar to how a dog gathers information? I noticed yesterday when I was holding Mitarashi outside the tank Dango came out and was trying to sniff her cagemate through the glass.

They're both females, but I don't want to risk any fighting between them or some sort of stress-induced/injury-induced tail loss. Are two females likely to fight if kept out together for short periods of time (5-15mins)?

Sounds as if they're checking each other out. As far as how they'll get along, it depends on the gecko. I keep mine in small groups with no problems.
