So... Do I have a Giant?

I don't post here often, as I have a lot more to learn than say on the topic of reptiles (as opposed to my presence on car forums where I'll have between 2 and 5 posts per day), but some of you might remember my sort of intro-post where I introduced Gonzo, the Petsmart Mystery Morph.

At this point in time, he's about 11 months old, and he's big. Its hard to get him to sit still enough to measure him accurately, but he's just shy of 10.5 inches in length, and quite bulky. He's a little bit of a chubster, but he only really started putting on bulk when he hit around 9.5-10 inches in length. Two of my friends have leos, one your spot-on classic normal, the other a raptor, both of which are significantly smaller in both length (by an inch or more) and bulk/heft. I don't feed him fatty foods, his diet has pretty much consisted of crickets of various sizes for a while, then I switched him over to superworms for ease of storage (and no noise/smell). He usually eats two or three supers every day. Weight is roughly 100-110g.

When we bought him he was easily the largest one in the tank. Now he's just a beast, and isn't afraid of silly things like dorm building fire alarms (they merely anger him while he sleeps outside of his hides). No idea of his genetics, he's just huge.

Yea you have a giant gecko...but unless it is a genetic giant it is just a big gecko. I have heard of people getting "giants" in texas because Tremper would wholesale some out to pet stores. I dont know if I believe that at all though. I would like to hope that you have a giant, but the reality is that its probably just a big gecko and not a genetic giant.

What type of car do you have?...I am a bit of a car junky myself.

How else other than genetics would anything grow abnormally large? I know he's probably not "of the bloodline", but he seems to fit the other criteria. Nowhere near texas either, unless the petsmarts in the northeast get their geckos from the same breeders.

The car is a 1997 honda accord sedan that I did a moderate restoration on (stop rust before it gets bad), and repaired/repainted the bodywork. Nothing crazy, it looks like it could have come from the factory the way it is now, even though I've done a bunch of subtle things to it. Also doing suspension work and upgrading the brakes. Eventual plan is to bump the power up a good bit to around 200-220hp (from 130). Lol, more said about the car than the lizard.

Yeah, by comparison my RAPTOR who is the same age is around 9 inches and weighs 50 grams (weighed not too long after a week long hunger strike from when I moved him to a new tank). So, when he is eating normally I think he weighs about 55-60 grams.

100g+ at 11 month old and 10.5", I'd say it's a giant. You never know where Petsmart get their geckos from so it wouldn't surprise me if it has giant genetics from their local supplier.

Yes it would come from genetics...obviously. I have a 119g Emerine Reverse Stripe, but he is NOT a Giant. A random occurrence in genetics does not always mean it is inheritable. Thus you have genetic giants and big geckos.

By the way, we got him to hold still for long enough to measure him better. He's more like a hair below 11 inches. Lol petsmart $35 gecko.

I would be interested in breeding him within the next year or two to see if Gonzo does have an inheritable trait. In the very least he should produce very healthy offspring.
