Tylor.. Do you breed reptiles as well? If so what? Have you had any issues this year? What do you use as your bedding? Thanks in advance.

that its either from the pesticides on the oats and food they feed the mealworms or its those hormones they use to prevent them from becoming pupa......down here in Florida i read it was pesticides.....but what i think is the weirdest thing that not all states were having problems with the shortage....and even more that the large suppliers don't tell us the truth.....i haven't had any problems with mealworms it my supers that i have had problems with

ya it is specially the fact that the mealworms survive it so until you feed it to your leo you don't have a clue about them being poisoned.......thats why im so careful with my mealworms

Curious about what Careful is? Would this mean you raise your own oats, never purchase meal worms to build up your beetle count, and never treat to take care of any pest bugs in the oats?...take care. HJ....

P.S. thats what i mean by careful

Thanks, I raise them for my hobby, so I am always interested in what I may do better..or who I may go to when my needs increase or I hang up my meal worm hat. I'll look over your site and keep you in mind. Take care. HJ

My beetles keep dying (w/in 1-2 weeks), and I can't tell if the ones that survive are producing eggs.

I keep them in a 6-qt Sterlite box on rolled oats with a potato for moisture. The box is ventilated through the screen I glued to the cover. The room temperature is about 78-82 F.

What am I doing wrong?

Oh, I didn't know they did that when food was present. I have around 40 beetles in there now. The mealworms were pupating like crazy. Is that too many beetles? What's the maximum for that size box?

you can put 10-20 in a plastic container (around 6"x6"x2 3/4") but anything small will work i use ziplock plastic containers.....butter containers work great too....basically anything will work just separate them enough so they don't kill each other and you'll be fine....but just so you know they don't always to this sometimes you can have hundreds of them and it works out great but them sometimes they don't like each other and you have to separate them....good luck......anymore questions i'm here for you
