So upsetting....

So today, I went to a local pet store chain to pick up some superworms. I normally go to the one by my house but we were in a different area so I went to the closest store. Being with my 2 1/2 year old, we walked around, looked at the fish, birds, rats, etc. I went over to where the leopard geckos were to look at them since my son loves our Leo. I noticed one in the back just laying there away from the hides. The way he was laying, didn't look right...I watched him for a few minutes and noticed he wasn't breathing, he was dead :( I was so furious that he was even still in the cage that I went to a store employee and asked for help to "look" at one of the Leo's. The employee came over and asked which one I wanted to see. I pointed to the one that was dead. He hesitated and said that I couldn't see him because he was dead. Well, no crap he is dead...WHY ON EARTH is he still in the cage at 3pm. I then asked to speak to a manager. I voiced my concerns about the habitat of these Leo's. dried on poop ALL over the cage, dead crickets everywhere and a dead Leo. He acted like he didn't even care. I told him I would stop by next week and if this wasn't fixed, I was going to call someone else who was in charge about this issue. I also voiced my frustration at the superworms and crickets...they were all dead too. Some of the Superworms were dated all the way back to October of last year. It was disgusting and smelled like butt! I walked out in tears because I knew that these animals were NOT getting the attention they deserve and if I could afford to take them all home and have time for them I would...but I don't :(

Anyways, just wanted to vent a little about my day and these poor poor animals.

It's unfortunate that these things happen. If more people stood up about the issues, I don't think it would be nearly as prevalent. Most people either don't know/care there's an issue or don't bother to do anything about it. I'm glad you're doing something about it. :)

It's really unfortunate when things like this happen :main_thumbsdown:. I don't think it is representative of all pet stores though. My local large chain pet store has very knowledgeable employees who make sure everyone buying a leopard gecko has things like a humid hide, UTH, etc. You would think that there would be some sort of inspector checking out the animals for quality. At least you did as much as you could, good job for that!:main_yes:
