Hi,
Just wanted to share something with everyone,it may help someone whos worried about their new gecko. I bought my gecko eight days ago and he hadnt eaten a thing. He is only six weeks old so I was getting really worried. I have a fancy exo terra meal worm dish in his tank, the same with the water bowl as they were recommended to me by the pet shop as they look good in the viv. Anyway, I was watching him sleep today and I thought, he is so small, I wonder if he cant actually reach into the dishes as they are quite deep, so I cleaned two marmalade tops out and put mealies in one and water in the other, and hey presto, he has just eaten his first meal! The poor thing couldnt actually get at his food! Sometimes looking good isnt always the best option! Just wanted to share this incase anyone else was having the same problem, its worth a try! Also, the sides of the marmalade tops are quite slippery,so the mealies cant get out,and they are so shallow small geckos have no trouble reaching their food.
Cheers
Samantha

Great post! I think this is a problem that's important to address, as Elektra had the same problem when she was teeny. I remember wondering the same thing, replacing the bowl...

Sticky-worthy. 'If you gecko won't eat, it could be one of the following reasons...'

I'm thinking I might have this problem too. When I leave supers in Tiamat's glass bowl she hardly ever eats out of it. The sides are quite high. Perhaps I should invest in something with lower sides?

Thanks for posting this! :)

How long has it been since he's eaten? Is the 80 on the warm or cool side? Do you have a gram scale, and if so has he been losing weight? Hehe, sorry about the 20 questions, it's important information.

We hold ours for about 15-20 minutes every other night and none of ours have an eating issue. I don't reccomend holding it as soon as you get it. Let it get used to it's new home and then gradually ease into holding him or her once it is established.

also only handle your gecko 2 times a week ONLY
