I seldom visit our local herp forum, because everytime I go there I snap! I probably shouldn't read anything there but unfortunately I did yesterday, and I was so angry that I was shaking while typing up a reply. Here is the story:
A girl posted about her aptor that died; she said she poked it in the morning and it isn't moving, then found out the gecko is dead. She wanted someone to tell her what might have happened. Well, her description was that half of the body has already turned black. She can't remember when she last fed it or gave it water (yes, no water at all!), she was guessing maybe 4-5 days (you think she can't remember if its just 4-5 days??). A lot of her friends left message to comfort her, until a member points out her negligence of not providing water.
Guess what, it was the poor guy that said the right thing got jumped on and laughed at! Those idiot friends were claiming that leos don't get water from desert, so it is perfectly fine for them give it water and food whenever they have time! One person even claims that he has 50 geckos, and he only give them water once every few months, and they're as healthy as can be!! What a liar! I think the 50 geckos part is just to make people think he's more knowledgeable.
I couldn't refrain myself from speaking up, so I typed a rather long reply saying that no one should even own a pet if they don't even have time to fill a water dish...etc. In the end, the original poster replied to me, and said she has a job and is not like those "parasites that don't need to work and has tonnes of time to take care of geckos". WTF?? I wish Mother Earth would cull those people so everyone can have a brighter future!
