Some questions about my new gecko

Both of my new geckos are doing great, they're trying their best to hide from me, but I still managed to spot them catching their roach! Ace! Although I got pretty tired by pretending to be a motionless thing in front of their tanks...:p

One thing I've noticed about the RAPTOR, he's eating a lot of calcium from his calcium dish. I saw him licking his calcium yesterday (the first day home), and I saw him licking, then even biting his calcium today. Its just plain calcium without vitamin D3; is it all right for him to consume so much calcium?

Another thing is, how can I prevent him from turning brown. At the moment, he is a nice orange with no hint of brown at all; not even on the tail. I had heat mat covering 50% of his tank, and thermostat set to 92F. I use mostly light coloured substrate; but the wood and rock hide is very dark, do you think that'll make him turn brown??

His eyes are also very sensitive to light, will this improve over time? And will the eye colour darken when he grows up? I personally prefer darker eyes.

I wouldn't worry too much about the calcium consumption. They're pretty good at regulating themselves. If he starts to develop calcium buildups in his armpits, then you may want to cut back on how much you make available to him.
As far as his color is concerned, as long as you keep him warm he will stay nice and orange.
The eyes will always be sensitive to light. None of the eyes on any of our R.A.P.T.O.R.s have darkened over time. They've all stayed that nice ruby color.
Hope this helps. Have fun with you new buddies.

Repti Cage Carpet, Newspaper, Paper Towels are all great substrates to use... avoid the sands/crushed walnut bedding

Thanks for the replies. Hardees (the raptor) is doing great, he didn't close his eyes when I had a small light turned on last night (for picking out the roaches); and he ate 6!! Initially I thought it would take him quite some time to acclimatize to the new environment, but it took him no time to adjust! I even saw him "outside" more than Lemzip (rwpa).
