OK,
Before I buy my leopard gecko I want to say on this forum what my setup will be like, and I want you to tell me how it sounds.

OK...I am going to buy 2 females and put them in a 24"x18"x12" tank with a lid (smaller if its OK) and with a paper towel substrate. I would have a heating lamp (the gecko can't reach this) and an under tank heating pad on the same side. That side will be maintained at a 88F, the other should be about 75F (so they can choose where to stay). At night I will turn of the light and let the heated side to cool down to 72F. They will have two huts one on the hot side, one on the cool side. The hot side will be a humid hut, with either moss or soil bottom. I will put objects in so they can climb and have fun. I will have a shallow water bowl refilled everyday. A tiny bowl (like a cap of a milk carton) of calcium supplements. The night before I will gut load the crickets
and mealies with a store bought gut loader (or just high vitamin cereal). The next day I will feed my Leos each 3 crickets and 3 mealies (I have no clue on how many, please correct me :D). Maybe twice a month, as a treat, I will feed them a wax worm. And when needed I will give them vet appointments and clean the tank. Oh, and of course post pictures here (if my camera doesn't act stubborn).

The only question I can think of right now (other than how much to feed them) is if I wanted to get 3 Leos (2 females, 1 male), but didn't want babies, is it possible to prevent them from...making love? And would I need to bump up my tank size, if so to what dimensions?

If I have another question I will reply in the thread.

Thank you so much for reading and giving your input, if I finish my research (I almost have...you guys are the last touch) then I get them for my birthday. June 27th!!!

I would suggest that you add a thermostat or rheostat so that you can control the heat output of the uth, and that you get a digital thermometer with a probe so that you can know the actual tank substrate temps.

I would also suggest that you get the tank set up and make sure that the temps are stable and in the right range before your leos arrive.

Finally, two females will sometimes fight and stress each other too, so keep an eye on them, and be prepared to separate if any issues come up.

Sounds pretty good, just a few tips id like to give you. There really is no need for a light, just a waste of money. Also, keep the UTH on 24/7 and keep a temp of 88-92 at all times. Mealworms should be kept int he tank 24/7 aswell. I usually keep about 10-15 in each dish, and when it is empty, I refill it.(Check few times a day). Crickets should be given as many as each gecko can eat in about 15 minutes daily, every other day, or every few days. Seems liek you did your research. Cnat wait to see your new girls!

I don't know if any one answered the part about a male. You cannot house males and females together or they will breed. You'll be much better off with only females.

It's safe to ship geckos all over the country. All of the respected breeders on here ship either FedEx or UPS over night. Even if you're shipping geckos from one coast to the other before 10:30am delivery times are usually guaranteed for non-rural areas. We've shipped hundreds of geckos from the Gulf Coast and we've never had any problems. Just be sure to check out breeder's trader ratings (the orange number under their Screen name) and find out their shipping policies you order. I can't tell you how many threads there have been here where we've had to help members with sick or tiny baby Leos bought from pet stores where they ended up dying after spending tons of money on vet bills. Please consider buying from a responsible breeder instead. There are quite a few reptile shows on the East Coast you could by from a breeder at one of those as well and avoid shipping fees.

Mel&keith said it all! The breeders tend to take MUCH better care of the leopard geckos than petstores. The petstore animals usually come loaded with parasites and stuff. Trust me, I learned the hard way and went through 4 babies that I though were healthy :main_no:. Poor little babies......Shipping is safe. No matter how far you ship, they are guarunteed to get to you by 10:00AM the next day by FedEx or UPS. :D

i'd go with one of the breeders here with the links in the site sponsors section at the top of the page or check kingsnake.com just because they're more reptile specific and the selection will be a lot bigger as well, also that ad is in canada so you would run into all kind of trouble shipping live animals internationally.
