Yesterday i put my male with my female gecko and she stood up and had her tail str8 in the air moving it like a cat about to pounce at something. and the male started vibrating his butt(not his tail) i thought it was funny....

is this normal when a male and a female meet for the first time?

The stance you saw from your female was an aggressive/defensive stance. You do not want to leave your male in with your female at this point, as she could seriously hurt the male when he advances and she refuses.

Are you sure she is ovulating?

That's good!

A lot of female leopard geckos will begin ovulating the beginning of the year, but some are completely off "schedule". Just keep checking on her, and you will know.

Another tell-tale sign of ovulation is when a female goes off food. Not ALWAYS will that be the case though.

Cooling, or brumation can be loosely equated to hibernation in mammals. What some keepers will do is "cool" their reptiles for a period of time, then heat them back up in order to manipulate the natural course of things, and cause the females to ovulate.

I personally have not tried it, but I've heard of others having much success. In your case, with this being your first breeding I would recommend just allowing nature to take it's course. I know it's hard to wait because it's exciting, but the patience is worth it!

A lot of the time the simple introduction of the male is enough to trigger ovulation in females... Certainly they will not hit it off the first time introduced unless the female is already ovulating and receptive...
Dont worry though... Just try introducing the male again in a couple of days... You can keep doing this until the female allows copulation and they breed... The male can stay with her a week or so, just to be sure the deed has been done...
