"The OBT is loose!"

We were putting the juvi OBTs in nice new enclosures and one slipped past Tim and got out and ran under the dishwasher. :main_rolleyes:

After ya'll get done laughing, if you have any tips to catch this little bugger, we'd sure like to hear 'em!

OMG...I am so glad I don't live at your house. I hope your little OBT gets home safely. I would suggest maybe a moist hide in every room? They like those, right?

They like dark, creepy places. The bigger ones we have hole themselves up in their hides and try to kill us if we try to move them.
Definitely not a "charming" tarantula species.
Shes only about the size of a quarter, maybe a little bigger. But shes an OBT, which means shes orange, African, venomous and incredibly ticked off at everything. The male was rehoused 2 hours ago and is still in a threat stance.

Oh K damn I'm with Maia, I'm SO glad I don't have an OBT running around the house, I'm not afraid of the spiders but DAMN those things freak me out, would hate to get bitten, I would go with Maia as well with the dark places in each room, and just hope you don't get tagged in the middle of the night.

Also maybe a prey item in there for it as well?

Saying this I've not actually got that much experience with T's, only a colbalt blue and a couple of mexican red knees.

We've completely ripped apart the entire kitchen looking for her. I know it sounds horrible, but I think all we can do is spray the general area and be careful to check our shoes for a while.
These guys are so hardy and unless its freezing, they thrive anywhere. I knew how much of a pain these guys were and I really didn't want them, but the guy sent them anyways. This entire species just freaks me out.

This just sucks!!

Outside their enclosure, they'll look for a dark, secluded, tight space to curl up in. If they move around, it will be when it's dark and quiet. Your absolute best chance to find it is going to be in the light of day and looking in every place that fits the above description.

I can't say that I've ever had anything that aggressive get loose, but I did have a B. auratum escape quite a while back. It made it down seven stairs and hid behind a refrigerator. Trust me, they can get into some tight spaces. Happy Hunting! :main_laugh:

Thanks, Maurice. I'll keep looking.
Until he's found, though, we'll be sure to shake our shoes out real well. :D

Of all the species to get loose. :main_rolleyes:
