I looked it up and it costs about $20.00 over the counter... mineral oil and petroleum jelly cost about 2 bucks each.

Honestly for your situation I think the regular mineral oil would be just fine. Sausages leo went thru a bad wound, this is a minor scab compared to what she is trying to heal, plus yours are feet, hers are side and tail injuries. I think the lacrilube might be a touch of overkill for this application plus having chlorobutanol, a preservative anaesthetic, is something you don't need, but sausage may have needed given the severity of her wounds, but go for it if you want, it's just my nature to be a minimalist when treating animals.

Substrate and hide should be meticulously cleaned as anything can stick to moisturizer put on the little feets. And for that reason, using as little as possible would thwart the possibility of excess bacteria lingering. I'm a big fan or pharmacy grade mineral oil, it's very gentle and used effectively for several issues in a variety of species. If you aren't using paper toweling, it would be best for him to do so, at least temporarily. Easy to change a piece out and soft on the tootsies :)

WOW rele. it only cost me like £3 here in england

Yeah I was shocked to see it was so much. It was like $19.49 on the one site I took the info from. Kinda crazy altho I have seeen prescription eye drops when I use to work in the pharmacy years ago that were over $100.00 for a small bottle.

Well...
His feet seem to be getting much better, and one of them I'd say is pretty close to being fully healed.
I'm so happy he's gonna pull through fully intact. :)

Glad things are progressing nicely.

Thanks! Me too.
The whole time this has been going on, I cringe to think the little dude might be in pain.... :(

I betcha after the next shed it'll all be better ;)

Oh man, I hope yer right.
It was bad enough he was malnoursished when I got him, but pretty devastating once the feet and tail wounds were added to the mix....

At least he's a fighter! :D

Well now that he is getting proper care and nutrition I have very little doubt it will be a persistant issue after the next shed, maybe 2. Just keep up the good work that you've been. It's obviously working :)

BAD BAD BAD NEWS...

I have very little doubt it will be a persistant issue after the next shed, maybe 2.

Well, last night the little man shed again....
I gave him a nice warm bath/sauna, and a fresh, warm humid hide, and did everything I possibly could to help him, but once again, he pulled the shed off of his rear feet prematurely, but this time he scored some huge damage points....

The foot that I thought was 90% better, is now missing the "thumb", "ring finger", and "pinky" finger, and the other back foot is missing the "thumb."
Also, the scabs that were on the bottom of the feet are missing now too.... :(

The sad thing is, I know he's done this to himself, cause there's dried blood all around his mouth and nose from it..... :(

I love this little guy, but I can't for the life of me figure out why he's doing this.... *SIGH*

Aw man... no way... little bit of info... soaking him when he's fixin to shed could cause more problems than help. I had this problem with Eros too. His body and head came off great but his tail wasn't ready... he took it off anyway becasue of the condition the rest of him was ready to go. I'm sure the excessively loose skin everywhere else made him bonkers and he just wanted it all off regardless of self damage.

What I would suggest next time is to just give him the tupperwaer moist hide with the damp paper towels in it, put it over a heat soure (I have Eros' on top of his hot hide and it fogs up quite nicely or I put his 50 watt blue moonlight bulb on over top of it) and he'll spend SEVERAL hours in there post shed. It has been the least obtrusive way I could help him do the right thing simply by providing the best environment for him to do it himself. Know what I mean??? This way I'm not making the rest of his body ready before some other parts might not be. Something else tomaybe consider is to insted of soak them, just rub a little good quality mineral oil on the difficult spots like top of head, feet and tail tip right as you start to notice your leo ghosting up.

awwww poor little guy owie :(
yeah i just cant think why they would do these things to the selves.
the girly in one of my postes ripped off he own scab befor she was ready to shed. it must just drive them crazy itchy when they shed.
i have herd of reptile self mutilating parts of their bodies that arnt right. in their eyes this would make them vulnerable. its crazy

His humid hide is a plastic cup(so it doesn't absorb the moisture), with damp shredded paper towels(for rapid, sterile cleaning), and he was using the humid hide, and EVERYTHING seemed like he was getting back on track.

What I don't understand, is how come he's shed again so quickly?
This whole mess started from the first shed(Jan. 27th.), and it's already happened again... What gives???

This is so frustrating, and I feel soooo bad for him.... *SIGH*

Yeah Eros sheds about every 2-3 weeks as well altho this time it seems he's going a bit longer between his last shed and the next one. I think his growth is slowing down. I take frequent shedding as a good sign of proper growth and nutrition.

Yes, he's still fairly young, and he has been eating much better since I got him, but he doesn't seem to be getting any bigger, or filling out how I'd like.
Man, I hope all his problems go away soon, he deserves to feel better... :(
