Hi guys. My leopard gecko is nearly two months old. I went away on a sceince research project for 9 days and left my little guy in the 'capable' hands of a housemate.

Came back home and although he had been fed and tank temps were fine, there was no water in the bowl, the cool/damp cave was dry and he had apparantly shed his skin (although their was a fair amount of flakey/dead skin on his eyes and nose which I removed carefully with a damp clean cotton bud.

However, after a week his left eye seems to be more closed than the other and doesnt seem to recognise feeding cricket movement infront of him. He is very active and is always out and about.

weight is fine but im worried about him. Could there be an eye infection caused by shedded skin irritation, or maybie a parasite problem...

Please help, im stumped on this and I want the best for my little guy

It sounds like the symptom of stuck shed. With the eyes sometimes it can be hard to see, especially on the little ones. Try taking a moist cotton ball, and gently rubbing it over the affected eye. You may be able to remove the offending object, or at least moisten it so the gecko can get it. See if it gets any better the next day, and look to see if there is anything that comes off on the cotton ball. Yellow and green goobers are signs of infection. Good Luck.

soak him for 20 mins every day and gently clean out the eye with a qtip and sterile saline solution...(like contact stuff).

I also have a thread in here about eyes...

Cool thanks guys, I will have a look at the hotlink. I cant take a photo of hs eye as everytime I try he opens his eye-up grrr.

Im thinking it might be a bit of old peeled skin that has hardened or something, stopping it from openng like normal. There is no discharge, change in colour and he doesnt look in discomfort.

Just looks odd when you look at him (like a gecko eye-patched pirate... he's called Roger too lol)

Many thanks for all the help guys :main_thumbsup:
