Spagnum moss has a funky smell

I ordered some spagnum moss for my humid hide. It has a rather..."unique" smell. I had it in my leo's setup for nearly 24 hours and it was starting to make the tank smell so I took it out.

Is it supposed to smell that weird or is there a way to "air" it out? He's more interested in his magnet hide I ordered than the humid hide but it may have to do with the substrate. I'm tempted to try the cocoa fiber bedding if the smell is here to stay with the moss.

I use coco fiber in my layboxes (and the humid hides for the two leos i have that like to dig lol). There's no problem with smell

It does have a distinct smell, but I've never thought of it as unpleasant or overpowering.
