So just this year my ex got me into geckos. I started finding that there are many morphs to leopard geckos. Once I got back home i ended up buying more than a few. I have never got something that I wanted raise so bad and want go to shows all over. Every chance I get I go to a reptile show. By time I head back to college ill have about 9 geckos. Lets put it this way lugging **** from the 5th floor of ur college dorms sucks and caring a 20 long was hard as ****. So here I am I got till aug and maybe you guys can help me. I am looking for a cage I can stack but also gives my babies room to move around and all. Right now i have a female in a 20 long and each male in a 10 gal and got 3 female in a 20 long . Since Im taking these little guys to college I want be able keep them close because yeah we are not supposed to have any animals except fish. And I would really like to keep these guys close together and be able to pick them up and put them in my car easily than dying and lifting there cages up everytime i need take them out my dorm room. hope you guys can help and tell me a good cage I can get.

Visionariums are plastic on the bottom, but the sides are glass and there is metal in the top- so they are still pretty heavy! Great cages though, I love them. And you can break them down flat for moving.

But were I you (and this is what I did when I was in college) I got the Lee's Herp Haven large breeder cage (you can get them at Pet... um... co? I think). They are slightly smaller than a 10g, but ok for a single gecko IMO. Added advantages are they are light (all plastic) stackable (both broken down and when being used) and have dividers so when moving you put 3 geckos/ cage, all divided up, so moving would require for you 3 total (or you could play around with all your girls in one, 2 males/cage divided in 1/2, depending on distance traveling). They aren't that expensive- if you can manage to get them from a herp show, they are like $10/ea., at Pet co are maybe $20? Make sure you get the ones with dividers though! Hagen has a similar one, but only one divider, which makes it MUCH less useful (and the two brands don't stack together). The only thing would be that they open at the top, so if you are going to feed or whatever and they are on top of each other you would have to move them about.

For front access, you're really stuck with Visionariums and 20L with the slide-in top put on its side (so it slides up, not out).

I love the visionariums and highly recommend them. I have 4 of them. They do cost a pretty penny tho but I feel like they are worth it.

They sell dividers that can make one visionarium into 2. But personally I didnt feel it was enough room for one adult leopard gecko. Juveniles maybe but adults no. So dont even bother buying the dividers.

Here are my visionariums.

If you are looking to keep your geckos even though you are not suppose to have them I would go with a rack system, like AP(animal Plastics) the racks provide every thing your gecko needs except food and proper nutrition. they are very content in them I would suggest a nine or ten high made to fit 32 qt tubs that way each gecko can have plenty of room to inself. most breeders use 15 qts for a single animal . this way they are not too showy and to the casual observer in a dorm room it looks like clothing drawers. after all they are sweater boxes.

If you are worried that you wont be able to view your geckos in a naturalistic display . I'd say I would rather be able to keep them, and have them be low profile and be able to take them out when ever you want, then get caught having them and have to get rid of them.

Oooh... Tiffany, I'm jealous of that shelf. Where did you get it? I don't like stacking them, either. I feel that you don't get enough ventilation that way (even though the sides are theoretically enough).

The rack idea sounds like a good one for your needs. If you do want stacking cages, a cheaper front-opening cage is the stackable cages from glasscages.com. I only have 2 stacked. The rest are on shelves like the picture above. The glasscages people told me to put velcro on the top and bottom of the stacking cages and velcro them together. I tried that but found that the bottom cage got way too humid. Now I have them sitting one on top of another with a little wood domino in each corner and it's much better. These cages are only half as high as regular tanks so they don't look so funny stacked.

Tiffany...how do you heat regulate that rack?

Each tank has its own ultratherm heat pad (available from the bean farm online) They are the best in my opinion. I use 6x23 but 6x17 works as well. To control temperatures I use 2 zoo med rheostats. One rheostat controls 2 heaters (4 heaters on 2 rheostats)

Oooh... Tiffany, I'm jealous of that shelf. Where did you get it? I don't like stacking them, either. I feel that you don't get enough ventilation that way (even though the sides are theoretically enough).

The metal bookshelf I found in a local consignment shop and knew it would be perfect.
As far as ventilation I feel like maybe they get toooo much ventilation because my one male leo goes crazy whenever my females are ovulating. He can smell them but cant get to them so he just digs at the corners. I feel kinda bad for him lol.

Nice setup beauty I might have to look into that!

Thanks! Yeah I really love them and recommend them.
