Still having problems with shedding! Really worried... shed stuck on tail.

I made a thread about a month ago because my leo has been having some shedding problems. I took the advice I was given and managed to soak off and remove the shed he had stuck to his legs and feet.

Now Nico is shedding again and this time it is worse. It was pretty much stuck to his entire body. I don't understand why he is no longer making an effort to remove the shed from his body. He's never had major problems in the past. Nothing about his enclosure has changed. He has a humid hide made out of a margarine container with a damp sponge inside. He's had that set-up for years with no problems.

I took someone's advice and switched out the sponge for damp sphagnam moss. Now he won't even go inside his humid hide.

It's taken about a week, but I've managed to remove most of the stuck shed from his body through soaks twice a day, spraying him with the Zoo Med shedding aid, and picking off what loose shed I can.

I feel like I am really stressing him out and he has stopped eating again. The part that really worries me is that he has a buildup of shed on his tail, and I am afraid to mess around too much with his tail. The shed covers most of his tail and stops just below his vent. I think I can get under the skin just barely with my tweezers, but I am scared that he will drop his tail.

Any ideas why he seems to have given up removing his own shed? What else can I do? :main_huh:

I wouldnt attempt to remove any of the shed myself unless its hurting him (like on eyes or toes).
He sounds like hes really stressed about it if hes stopped eating.

I think he is pretty stressed. Last night I managed to get some of the shed off of his tail... the stuff that was stuck near his vent. I soaked him and sprayed his tail with the shed aid stuff again.

I took the sphagnam moss out and replaced with paper towels. I wish I hadn't have bought that stuff. I can't believe how expensive it was...

Anyway, I'm going to give the poor guy a break for a couple days and see how he does on his own. Hopefully he will start eating again soon.

I am still struggling with this issue. I've tried everything I can think of, and he is really stressed out now and still not eating. He is losing weight and he doesn't look good. I'm afraid I am going to lose him. Does anyone know of a good herp vet in Orange County?

Thanks for the suggestion but Nico passed away about a month ago.

Nothing I tried worked. I took him to the vet, and she gave me some drops to put in the water when he soaked, but it didn't work. He had stuck shed all over his body, and no matter what I did it wouldn't come off.

I truly believe that it wasn't just a matter of stuck shed. I think that was just a symptom of what was really wrong with him. But I'll never know for sure.

RIP little buddy... sorry you had to suffer.
