still need some help

i’m sorry to keep asking questions, but i’m getting concerned about my pregnant gecko willie.

a week ago last sunday, she stopped eating. she has continued to go pottty and she hasn’t seemed distressed. friday night/saturday morning she spent a lot of time in her moist hide and she pretty much destroyed her tank with digging out the moss. i thought she’d be laying eggs soon.

she hasn’t dug anymore since then. yesterday she ate 5 crickets - i offered them everyday even though she hadn’t eaten in a week. and she got very excited when she saw the crickets so i fed her. no more digging, no eggs yet. her little belly is still bulging, and she looks like she’s going to pop. since her night of digging, she has slept. night and day - i go in there to check everytime i wake up during the night. she has been sleeping in a second moist hide/lay box i made for her with eco earth in it. she only comes out to lick calcium and drink water - which i have witnessed her doing both.

i didn’t know if any of this was normal, so i called a vet that has seen her before. i only got to speak to a receptionist, but she said it was not normal. i am not worried about the money a vet visit will cost, but its 80 miles to this vet. i’m worried the drive will stress willie out too much, and wanted to get some thoughts and opinions first.

is it normal for a pregnant gecko to stop eating, dig dig dig, then finally eat, and sleep night and day? i worry about every little thing, so of course, i’m quite worried right now. i’d appreciate any help you guys can give.

First of all, every female is different. I have females that eat right through their gravid stage, and I have females that will wait to eat until they've laid a clutch. It all depends on the individual gecko, so what you're experiencing may be unique to your girl.

How long ago did you breed her? She should lay sometime between two and three weeks after a successful pairing. By recording the date she was paired, you can estimate the date when you should get eggs. Hope this helps.

I have also had geckos go much more than a few weeks between mating and laying eggs (I'm waiting on 3 right now and it's been more than a month). I think the danger signs to look for are extended low appetite with weight loss and no eggs, unusual lethargy (not just sleeping, but being awake with half closed eyes and not wanting to move at all).

thank you for your help. i don't really know how long ago it was that she bred with the male. they shared a very large aquarium with a divider between them.

one day we came home and the male (pungo) was on willie's side of the tank, and willie was on pungo's side of the tank. we had no idea that anything had happened until a few weeks later when it was very obvious that she is gravid. when we tried to think when it was we found them like that, it was either a few days before or a few days after valentine's day (must have been true love...lol). so it's either been 5 weeks or nearly 6 weeks.

my main concern is that she's been sleeping night AND day since her digging spree on friday night/saturday morning. the only times she's been active was when she ate yesterday and when she goes to her calcium and water dishes. the receptionist at the vet i called today said that is not normal. i'll probably end up making an appointment for saturday, but i'm gonna be on edge til then.
