Snow tremper eclipse isn't RAPTOR, but you can call it whatever you'd like I guess? :) I'd call it a snow. Snecler? Snacker. Spackle? Snapple? Hmm...

Its a red eyed tremper albino hence why it was called a raptor. Dont see the problem in calling it that. Its a sweet looking little geckos for sure. Please keep us updated on the little gecko.

I continue to be confused about eclipse. Some people see the defining characteristic as red/black eyes or snake eyes but in some cases the solid/snake eye characteristic fades and people use the white nose as the defining characteristic. Which of these geckos would people call an eclipse?

1. born with snake eyes which fade into regular looking eyes but has a white nose
2. solid (red or black) eyes with no white nose

Lol. So true. Now that most are insanely mixed, it's hard to tell.

The white nose is ALWAYS present in an Eclipse. Eye pigmentation is extremely variable as you have noted, anywhere from 0-100% and capable of changing over time. Eye pigmentation is also present in Mack Super Snows (always 100%) and Blizzards (variable), but those are unrelated to the Eclipse gene.

So the gecko pictured at the top of this post, which is said to have red eyes (can't tell from the picture) but doesn't have a white nose is or isn't an eclipse?

Sorry if the picture sucks and you can't see the eyes. Ill try and post another one. The only camera and computer I have is my Droid X so these are the best I can get. Let me know if you can see the nose and eyes good enough.

Not always. I've hatched out a few Eclipse that don't display the faded nose or head marker but have solid eyes. (same goes for RAPTORs) :main_thumbsup:

So according to this it's the eyes, not the nose? Or is it "either (the eyes) or (the nose)"?

Aliza (still confused, especially because I've bred an eclipse to a het eclipse though she hasn't been too good about producing fertile eggs yet)

That makes things really confusing. I've never had one without the white nose. I guess the only way to know is the genetics. Two eclipses bred together are going to give you all eclipse. I've had a few with normal eyes, all last year. Before that, they were always snake eyes or partial snake eyes.

Eric~are those eclipse from sub outcrosses?

Aliza it's usually both Eyes and nose that are dead give a ways. Also the feet can and will have a lot of white. I believe genetic lines play a huge roll in these outcomes and there features.

Yes, Kristi. But like all of us Tremper's line is the starting point, and at what degree white is displayed or how it's displayed, I believe is due to specific outcrossings, and line breeding specific genetic stock.

Yes, Richard they do have the traditional white markings associated with Eclipses, that you received from me.

My response was in no way meant to confuse the standard thinking of the genetic make up of Eclipses or RAPTORs but to advise that white noses aren't always the tell all end all on whether it's an eclipse or not. I'll post picks up shortly on what I hatched. And again sorry for any confusion my post my have caused. :main_thumbsup:

Boy I feel like a moron! Sorry about that guys and gals I was wrong, I admit it I was wrong, time to eat some crow. LOL! Again sorry Tony.
