Stuck in shed

One of my new LGs is stuck in a bad shed. I have misted the little guy down several times, but no luck. Do I need to buy a commercial spray for shedding help from *****? I'm worried about his little toes!

You can soak them for a little while in warm water, that should help especially with the toes. If you have trouble around the head area, you can use a Q-tip with water and gently try to "roll" off the shed. I've done that a few times. You can use mineral oil, too, but I have never had to try that.

Or you can wet a cotton bud and rub the area with retained shed. Work on the edges untill it roll up, then you can peel it off for your gecko. If you have very steady hand, you can use a tweezer to help.

Shedding Tips

Hi Stephanie-
Keep moist boxes damp, mist the cage, or add a container of water in which the lizard can soak. This will help your lizard shed successfully. Since problems shedding can actually kill a young gecko, and can certainly cause the loss of toes in older ones, it's important to make sure that this process works successfully.
Baby leopard geckos shed more often than adults, and the overall frequency of shedding depends on the age and rate of growth of the gecko. Sometimes, the shed does not happen as completely as we want, even though we've made the effort to keep our lizards moist before hand.
If this is the case, you'll need to assist your gecko. Put it in a small plastic container partially full of water, or lined with warm, wet paper or cloth towels.
Put a top on the container (it should be large enough for it to move around in, and the water should not be deep if water is used) with a vent to allow breathing. Allow the gecko to moisten for a half hour. Then, the skin will have loosened enough that you'll be able to gently remove it with a blunt pair of tweezers.
If this isn't possible (don't pull hard!) soak the gecko for another thirty minutes and try again. Toe caps and eyelid or snout skin must not be allowed to remain, as they can choke circulation and cause infection or toe loss.

I've had luck in the past with olive oil dabbed on with a q-tip. (in combination with warm soaks)
