u shouldn't really use tap water because it has chlorine in it and that can eventually kill the gecko or any reptile because of the chlorine. i put repti drops in the water and that dechlorinates it making it safe for the reptile. repti drops are a product of zoo med and can usually be acquired at almost any petstore. sorry if it seems like im rambling on.

I`ve been using tap water gosh... for as long as I`ve been keeping and breeding geckos. I`ve never had a single problem.

I guess it would depend on the local water quality. If your tap water wreaks like chlorine and tastes like lead, you should probably filter it or use bottled.

Wow ... An Age Old Question

Chlorine is in all of the water that we consume. It is the agent that kills the bacteria. Each Water Provider will measure the Bacteria and determine the proper treatment to eliminate it. So there will always be some even if in tiny amounts of Chlorine.

In some cities there is no smell and in others you can really smell it.

For the small amounts that we consume it does not matter because of our body mass and the time that we will end up spending on the earth.

Britta is probably fine. I use the Repti-Drops. If if works that if fine with me but, I am more interested in the minerals/vitamins that it provides. However, chlorine will disapate after a day or two from any water source if it is left out uncovered in a cup, glass or bowl.

The answer to the fact that you have or anyone has had no problems with Chlorine is the fact that the long term effects of its impact on a Leopard Gecko has not been studied.

As for Floride, it is not used to kill of Bacteria. I do not think that it could even be used to kill off any Bacteria. It is used to promote healthy teeth in Humans.

The history of Floride ... is not a topic to be brought up here in the forum. But, dental hygene has always been a problem in a modern society. We finally figured out that we need to brush our teeth, first came the brushes, baking soda, tooth powders, tooth paste and then, of course, modern dentistry.

However, some people cannot afford the dentist. In children, Baby Teeth will fall out so for poorer people why should they be concerned about cavaties.

As for teenagers and Adults, how do you get them to go to the dentist if they cannot afford to go. The solution that many came up with is the introduction of floride into the Public Water System. However, there was a fight between those who wanted it and those who did not. Therefore, today some places have it and some do not.:D

Oh no, I didn't mean that lol. I meant that I checked after making my post about not thinking there was chlorine in tap water in most places.. so that made me curious and I had to check our local tap water just to see :main_yes: Then I figured I'd come back and admit that my original thought was incorrect.

Thanks for the comment :)

Ah

That's okay. I was teasing. :DI have seen your posts throughout the forum and you know what you speak of.:main_yes:

And it is always best to check up on someone or some piece of information because the internet makes liars out of a lot of people.

Since I do not "know" you and you do not "know me" you could or I could say just about anything.

It is almost like those silly e-mails that you may get that you have to go to Scopes to check them out.

Have Fun and see you on the Forum.:main_thumbsup:

I dont think theres anything wrong with using tap water for
everything. But, some places are blessed with really good water,
and some are not.
Our Maryland water is quite good, but my family prefers spring
water from the store. So thats what I give my geckos too :)
Of course, most of the water they drink is condensation from the
humid hide anyway, so I dont know why I'm wasting the expensive
stuff on them!! :main_rolleyes:

I use repti-drops as well but my water has a lot of chlorine and is really hard, actually causes people kidney stones. So I think it is safer for me to use repti-drops.

Very Good

That is a very good article.

Some of us have known for years that "Spring Water", "Mountain Water" or some other type of water was not always what it was claimed to be.

But, Advertising is King in convincing many people what is is.

We all want to believe that our Government is making sure that the Advertising claims are accurate, or that a Company would have some Ethics and make sure that their Advertising claims are accurate but, the one thing that we have to remember is that we do not live at Disneyland.:D

Hello this is my first post but I thought you might want to read this article on spring water
http://ezinearticles.com/?The-Truth-About-Bottled-Spring-Water&id=1322607

Yeah, I know about that stuff. I used to work in a food chemistry lab.

It's still better than alot of tap water, and some of those claims are
exaggerated. Though FDA does not regulate the bottled water, most
companies do send samples out for independent testing.
But no, is does not come from that pretty place on the picture!! :main_laugh:
But, they never said it did, did they!? ;)
