I just use bed a beast.
I soaked the block in distilled water (AZ water is really "hard" so if its for my animals I try to use distilled or reverse osmosis for my fish)
I added only enough to submerge the block and gradually added more so I didn't have to worry about draining a bunch of dirt
I then take the desired amount (Or estimated there of) and add moss to it
Then I put it in my cage. There is a lot let over but I have no where to put it safely so I just put it in my garden.

I also use bed a beast and have a planted tank so the poop just fertilizes it. For leftover bed a beast, I use a large zip lock bag and just keep it on a shelf.

oh ok thanks guys. I was also thinking about live plants. But as we don't use UV for our cresties is there any plants that can actually thrive without an UV source?

I use to use repti mulch I now use paper towels. I found it to too dirty everything is hidden and they would eat crickets and mulch the paper towels get dirty but easy to see and remove! Although if you like your tanks looking realistic (which mine do minus the towels) then mulch all the way I will admit mine look weird but nice
