super aggressive female

hello all, first time poster here. i tried to look up some information on the subject but all i could really find was male aggressiveness and nothing geared to my situation

iv had this gecko for about one year now and shes never been aggressive towards me..never snapped at my fingers..nothing...ever..well once..and it was because i was hand feeding and she quickly let go. well about 2 months ago i decided to get another female gecko with the intentions of them sharing a new tank(75 gallon). well its not going well..

last night i introduced them by putting the new gecko(about 6 months old) in with the older one..(i know, it was a mistake..territory) and in the first 30 seconds its seemed okay..rubbing neck/heads..then all the sudden the older one snapped at the new one so i quickly took her out.

did a little researched and learned about territory(didnt know females got like that) so tonight i tried in a neutral location and the same thing happen..but this time the older one didnt waste any time

i know my "into" might be alittle confusing, im sorry. so what do you make of this aggressiveness shes displaying..because im totally confused. could it be memory of scent and the fact that the new one "invaded" her "place" orrr what?(also note the new one showed ZERO aggressiveness)

iv never ever seen this behavior between two females before. i dont plan on putting them into a set up again. or atleast not for a few months..once the new one is full size(pretty close at this point)

and yes..they are both females.

Some leos just don't get along with others. It might be best to keep them separate. Just because they are female is no guarantee that they will get along.

You can just put a divider in the middle of the tank if she doesn't accept the newcomer, good luck though =)

thank you for the replies so far. i understand they might not get along..but instantly?

its weird she doesn't like groups.. because shes from a chain store and clearly was kept in a group for awhile

is there anything i can do? am i doing something wrong?

My two oldest were, and still are, like that. If they even see each other they get defensive and slowly start with the tail twitch. Leonidas doesn't seem to really look for trouble, but Loki (living up to his name) is always on the lookout to see who is within eyesight. I seperated a 20 gallon tank with cardboard and they never realized their arch rival was less than half an inch away...

I would definetally suggest doing this for the saftey and well being of your little ones.

try cleaning and sanitizing the tank...mightnget rid of the former "owners" scent.
