Superworms?

My friend gave me a few supers to see if my gecko would like it. She's still fairly young so I'm a bit reluctant to give her any at all due to her size. She's about 8-9 months, been fed mealworms now but she had crickets 'til about 5-6 months. Any thoughts? If she is in fact too young still, then when (roughly) is it safe to give her some? And what about using it as a staple diet?

Here is a picture of her. It was taken just over a month ago. She's become slightly chubbier and bigger in general, and her tail has fattened up as well:

Thanks all!

When I introduced superworms, my 11 gram 4 month old leo ate two. I don't know where she put them. She doubled her weight in the next month on them.

If you think she's too small for supers, you would choke if I showed you videos of mine eating roaches equally large, if not larger than their head. In my experience the larger the prey item, the more it sets off their feeding response. She should be able to take supers NO PROBLEM :main_thumbsup:

Sweet! Thanks, all. I'll let her go at one or two when she wakes later today.

In terms of how much to give her, does it work the same as most other feeders? ie. Feed her until she's full and doesn't want any more.

Unfortunately, it seems like she isn't too interested in supers. She walked up to it, licked it a few times, then walked away. Her appetite is fine though as she hounded down some mealies a minute later. Hmm..

Possibly being introduced to a new feeder she may need to recognize it as a food item. I believe the visual stimulus (moving) of the feeder should let nature take its course.

Nah, even when she sees it moving around she'll simply go up to it, lick/sniff it, then turn her head away. I managed to trick her into eating a few though, by dropping a few mealworms then a dead super all in together. She'll munch the mealies before staring at the super for a few moments before lunging in to snack it.

I think I'm just going to stick with mealworms. Supers seem to be more of a pain to store and use. They're squirmy and fast lil' SOBs!

I know this is an old thread but I didn't want to start a new one and it's sort of relevant to my question. My leo weighs 29g as of yesterday, and she LOVES supers. How many should I feed her a day? And already gobbled down two and is looking at me like she wants more...
