ok I have not fed Superworms to my geckos yet because they are not big enough but I will have an adult coming in tomorrow that is on Superworms. I bought some but I wanted to know once and for all. Should I squeeze the heads or not? I have heard yes and no and am confused but I also dont want to run the risk of hurting my gecko!

I've been feeding my gecko since she was 4 months old Superworms and haven't had a problem. You definitely don't need to, but if you're stressing yourself over it every time you feed, then obviously just to calm your own nerves you can do it.

ok thanks. I gave them some carrots for a water/food source (along with bran as their bedding) i went to change it and one superworm was bitten in half. Is there something better to feed them so they dont eat eachother?

Just keep the worms fed and they won't cannibalize. If your geckos don't eat the worms right away when offered, make sure the food dish is escape proof or remove the worm. I've never had it happen but some folks have posted about worm bites in the past when it was loose in the cage.

my new Leo loves the superworms. She hasn't eaten any of the little mealworms I've given her and has only eaten a few crickets. But she loves the superworms. She stalks them and devours them. Can I feed them to her as a primary food source?

I have seen superworms with their jaws locked onto geckos if they're still there in the morning...nothing of lasting damage has ever happened, but I do try to supervise the om nom nomming of the supers since by my geckos to prevent complications. It takes longer to feed everyone this way, so I usually feed supers on weekends.

I feed superstitious to all my geckos over 20g with no problems. I've never took the head off and never had a problem. Scary moment was giving a pinky (same day birth pinky) to each of my adults for the first time this week.

2 of mine are about 4 months old. Maybe I should try it on them because I am sure they are getting tired of their mealworms and pheonix worms lol

Personally I would never feed them to my geckos after a horrible experience I had with my savannah monitor which is a larger lizard. Maybe feeding 10 at once could have been the cause but he started rejecting them. Stopped pooping. Took him to the vet which confirmed he had a bunch of them impacted in his gut. She had to flush him with a catheter, laxatone and started him on metronidazole for the inflammation. That was the end of superworms for me.

I feed superworms, all my geckos love them and do very well. Also, other large insectivorous lizards do well with them, such as beardeds and BTS. Too many at one time is a problem for any lizard tho!!! Use good judgement :)

I don't think supers were the problem as all my geckos eat them and digest them very easily...especially the fattails!

I agree with you on amounts, but 10 worms for a lizard over 2 feet long?

I know there is many possibilities but I could not find an explanation.

8x4 enclosure, temps 78- 140, 2 water dishes, plenty of hides, humidity 50-60

negative fecal samples, well hydrated, temps monitored carefully.

I had one dragon who had to have freshly shed supers in order to digest. The other was fine with regular ones. Sometimes it's just a matter of an adjustment on the owner's part in order to better accommodate the animal's individual needs.
