Ive been able to get the heat down to 94 degress on my UTH but thats still to hot. I was thinking if theres something I can but on top of my UTH below the sand that will supress the heat but not light my house on fire. WOuld paper towels work? Would a hand towel work?

Please this is sort of urgent.

it's a zoo med UTH I am using a thermometer by zilla that uses a probe. I just rest the prope on top of the sand at the center of the pad.

yeah I have one I seem to only be able to get the temperatur down to 94 degrees.
Its the zoo med one and all. Is it possible that it's defective.

Yes its set to as low as it can go. I dont have any more money so im not buying that and I dont think I would any ways seeing how beautiful the one I already have works. So back to my original question What can I place on the heating mat to supress the heat?

Silly question but is the UTH plugged into the Rheostat, if it is than it sounds like the Rheostat is defective and needs replaced.

Well sorry but just about anything you put in the tank under the sand is gonna heat up and still heat the sand just as hot. And if it worked beautifully you wouldn't be needing to find something that will cool the temps down instead of the rheostat doing it.All a rheostat does is cut back on the amount of elect. that goes to the UTH and either you have a higher watt mat than is needed or not a high enough stat thats why I suggest the other one cause you set it for 90 deg and it shuts on and off to keep it at that temp. Sorry I guess I can't be of any help

I wouldn't get to worried if I were you. 94 F (34 C) is fine, as long as there is a cooler side in the tank. I use spotlights and directly beneath the spotlight, the temperature can rise as high as 98 F (37 C) or even higher!

I agree, 94 is fine. I would say there's probably something wrong with your pad or your rheostat. I use a light dimmer (the laymans term for a rheostat) I bought form home depot for $10. When turned all the way down my UTH is almost off. If you return the rheostat and exchange it and it still doesn't work I'd replace your UTH. Though 94 is ok, this could be a symptom of anouther problem which could cause unpredictable results in your tank.

Yeah, I think I've gotten both a bad UTH and a bad rheostat from Zoo Med before. You definitely need to make sure those things are working right.
