So im looking up websites for leo's as im looking for rarer morphs and i come across a site and its Leopard gecko start kit is this....

Included In this Kit:
24 x 18 x 18 Melamine Vivarium
(Upgrade to 3ft Vivarium for just £30 Extra)
ES Spotlight fitting
75w Infrared Heat Lamp
Microclimate Dimming Thermostat
Heat Resistant Bulb Guard
Arcadia External UV Starter Motor
Arcadia 5% Euro Range UV Bulb
10kg Reptile Sand
Medium Shedding Cave (includes Moss)
Medium Reptile Cave
Natural Slate + Rainbow Rock
Cork Bark
Artificial Cactus
Small Rock Effect Water Bowl
Nutrobal Calcium and multivitamin supplement
Digital Thermometer
Pet Expert Leopard Gecko Book

Well im sure the sand, the uv bulb, and the heat bulb are all horribly wrong RIGHT?
im sure im right and if i am i make me so grumpy as a newbie would walk into a reptile "specialist" shop like the one i got this and would thing this is good for a leo! and not only that its like £280 QUID!

As long as you dont buy it, I dont see the big deal.
People need to do their research first, not after.

Yeah i know what you mean but like i stated if a reptile shop tells you this is what you need most people would think they have all the info they need, its just annoying that shops selling these dont even know the prober care themselfs ><

I don't mean to be rude but don't forget that they are a business and if that is the only starter kit they have then it forces anyone shopping there specifically to buy the whole package regardless of the reptile in question, business is business, sorry to butt in with my opinion, but like Katie said its not their problem or fault if the consumer doesn't do their research,

Exactly. I work at a petstore and do the ordering. I have yet to find a perfect gecko starter kit. I can recommend people get a UTH instead of the lights it comes with, but they'll do what they want to do.

I found a pretty decent kit at a pet value, very basic for any reptile and had to buy the specifics for your reptile. If I ever figure out what I bought I'll try to think of letting you know.

It sounds similar to something that one of the big chain pet stores here sells. I think its called a desert starter kit (something to that effect) Has a big picture of a leopard gecko on the box. Alot of the things in it you could use for a leo but its up to the person buying it to be familiar with the particular animal they have and its care requirements.

I thought about getting one of those kits just to have some of the things I'd end up getting but didn't since I figured I'd end up replacing them soon after anyway. As someone else said, reptile shops are still a business. It sucks but it is what it is. It can be a lot worse than being sold a kit you don't need. Like selling you aggressive reptiles that can grow to 6ft.

there is nothing wrong with havin a UV light as long is its no higher then 2% UVB and you only have it on for a few hours a day. in fact its been proven to improve health and fertility :)
Iv seen these kits and the vivs are always so small.
