Well....... all I know from working with the carpet is you have to clean it real well by hand washing and using my Iron trick to keep it from getting nappy and deforming ( shrinking too ). Every time you wash it..... it will loosen or have more exposed fibers.

The only solution is to "re - seal" those fibers by using an Iron and plain paper towels to "melt" them back down.

What brand of the carpet did you use? I'm thinking that they are all different since I have heard that the zilla brand is the best.

You don't have to hand-wash reptile carpet. Just toss in in the washer and hang dry. I did this for almost a year with 6 tanks. Use just a tad of detergent and rinse a couple of extra rinse cycles. I've never "ironed" reptile carpet--seems silly. One thing to help keep it clean longer is to place a paper towel down before you drop your crickets in and then remove it when they hop away. Also, make sure to place a folded paper towel in the poop spot.

I had to change out the reptile carpet once per week so you should have a extra one to switch out.

Thera no way I'm putting a crapped on Leo carpet in my washer lol. I bought the 30 gallon carpet which Is 5 inches longer then my tank. I cut the left over carpet in half. She uses the bathroom on the spare carpet I put in there.

I put the other piece of spare carpet under her hide with 2 wet crumbled up papertowels so it is a humid hide. I threw the deli cup humid hide I had in the trash, all it did was take up space..
