Hello -

My tremper albino seems to be having eyelid problems again. I have gone to the vet twice and he has prescribed Ciprofloxacin.

She has gone twice due to minor swelling, but this time its not so little. I am currently re-administering the cip drops into the eye 2 times daily.
She is swollen behind the eye, in a nice red, looks sore, lump.

I have attached pics - any help is appriciated. I have spend close to 300 dollars on this little baby, I would hate to have to spend a small fortune on her:eek:

You can see here that her Eyelid is getting distorted due to the swelling.

If any one is in NY and can help, or know of decent herp doctors, please let me know.

I'm almost positive it's an abcess...very common in leopard geckos. The puffy part is a thick, yellow, cheesy-looking substance that smells so bad it could clear a room. Most likely it will need to be drained, flushed with sterile water and antiseptic and your gecko will need antibiotics by mouth. You're looking at somewhere around $200 more or less....

Wow that is going to be expensive. I am going to guess the cip eye drops are no match for this?

Oh yeah that really looks like a abcess for sure and yeah that needs to be remove by a vet other wise it will only get worse and could bust open that will not be good if I was you I take your leo back to the vet and see what kind of pay plan they can work out with you so that can be remove good luck. :)

Pinky has a vet apt. We shall see the outcome. Thanks. I hope she does okay!
How do you give a lizard antibiotics by mouth?

Pinky went to the vet and got this puss ball removed. It wasn't yellow - more of a white chunk, she had very minimal bleeding. Her eyelid is already less distorted.

Awesome. I'm glad the abcess was lanced. I'm sorry I didn't get back to this thread sooner... Did they give you anything to give her for meds? Most of the time (I guess depending on the severity) liquid antibiotics are given as a preventative...however, if they feel she doesn't need it; I guess if it ain't broke...

Does she happen to spend a lot of time in her humid hide/water bowl/humid area in general? Lots of times TOO much humidity can be the culprit behind these abcesses...also trauma from another gecko can do it too. Glad it's all worked out for you.

Thank you very much:D. She got a shot at the vet and I was told I should keep administering the cipro eyedrops and use an antibiotic ointment on the wound for a week.

Today I went out and got wax worms for her as a treat and she ate 5 of them!

Also, before I took her to the vet I was able to hold up an LED flashlight to her head (facing down) and see a large mass on the side of her head/face. It would not let light pass through like the rest of her head.

Now, the mass is completely gone and the light shines right through her head.:main_thumbsup:
