Well, I have a group of four females in a 60 gallon terrarium that's set up with tile and paper towels, heated area regulated by thermostat, humid hide and lots of other dry hides, etc. Still, it appears that parasites have invaded. I've read a lot about home treatments, and I would love to treat them myself, but I have a vet appointment for the girls Tuesday. Just wondering if anyone can link the parasite to the symptom :main_thumbsup: A few days ago all white stools started appearing; they're about the size of normal stools but the shape and texture are off and, of course, the entire stool is white/off-white. I don't know which girl it is, but the other stools look normal colorwise but are of a minimal volume, like just a smudge on the paper towel. I'm worried about them and I wish mealworm breeders were back in business by now, I really do!

Sounds like one of your geckos regurged a shed... This can be due to parasites but I am willing to bet that it is due to temps... A 60 gallon AGA is a hard tank to heat properly... This is just my opinion though...

hmmm, that's interesting Greg. The tank is more cold that hot, granted, but I've got another one of the stools today. I just found it after I posted this thread! Aaaagh, I try to take such good care of them, I hope it's something common and treatable. The thing is, since mealworms are extinct, I've bought feeders from four or five sources over the last month so I won't get to point the finger at anybody for the ailment.

Are your geckos losing any weight??? Do stools look runny??? If not there may be no parasite load... It is always worth it to check anyway even if it does nothing more than clear your own mind... I would up the heat a bit before running out to a vet... A vet, although it seems logical, it is not always the answer...

well, the stools do look runny. I guess a vet can do more with a stool sample than I can; I don't even have a microscope but if I did I think I'd be able to successfully treat whatever it is!

There's no way to accurately diagnose parasites over the internet. You ought to have your vet do a fecal float (preferably with centrifugation) on a fresh stool sample to check for parasite eggs. Fecal floats are an important tool for ID'ing the parasite you are dealing with so that you can treat it effectively.

Hope your gecko recovers quickly! :)

thanks for clarrifying OSU, but I took Gregg's advice and decided to up the heat last night....this morning, everything looks fine! I'm still going to go to the vet, I think it's a great idea to go in periodically for little check-ups, plus I like showing off my leos. I may possibly be dealing with a draft or something....my winter here just started like two weeks ago!

Gregg M & Mealworms

Gregg M is usually pretty spot on.

He does things a little differently but, he is a good guy.

And what do you mean that there are No Mealworms.

I do not have that problem and I am not far from you.
