Im curious as to what causes tail kinks, I just read threw the ethics thread and read about an eyebrow kink and how it is beleived that it is a lack of vitamin A in the damn, my question is are tail kinks from the same thing, or are they genetic?

Tail Kinks are not genetic, They maybe from a low source of calcium when young or born!

allot of times tail kinks are genetic. if the animal is born with it chances are MOST of the time especially in certain lines it is genetic. if it is something that develops after it is born the most likely cause is a calcium or vitamin deficiency

the patternless line and crosses into the patternless line are notorious for GENETIC tail kinks. thats why it is imperative to outcross animals even non patternless animals. also seems that too much inbreeding without outcrossing can cause this to occur.

I agree with Robin :main_thumbsup:

Although I have seen a few breeding females start the season with perfectly normal appearing tails that start "kinking up" during the season. Two of my fat tail geckos also did this (one was even a male) but their kinks seem to fluctuate somewhat, and just don't look quite the same as congenital kinks.

paul perhaps stress?
Honestly I don't know. Stress is a possibility I suppose, and if it wasn't for the male AFT kinking up, I'd assume that it was due to the taxing of the females systems while laying eggs.
