Tail Loss!!!

Right, as many of you know, I am currently in the process of nursing a Gecko back to health that I rescued from my local Pet Shop.

Anyway, he hasn't been getting better for a while (although has finally started eating), and last night, I managed to scare him (by accident) and he dropped his tail. I know this is nothing "too" serious - but I just had a few questions:

1) Because he is ill at the moment, and seriously skinny will this effect him really badly?
2) Do I need to change his diet at all (currently feeding him crickets, and getting mealworms today)?
3) Do I need to put anything on his tail (or stump)?
4) And roughly how long does it take to grow back?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

It might effect him a little, I really couldn’t tell you. I remember seeing a pic of your leo, and it seemed pretty skinny, dropping the tail isn’t going to make it easier to rehabilitate him that is for sure.

It might not hurt to throw in a waxworm or two once or twice a week. Just make sure they are an appropriate size for him. That way he can have a little more fat in his diet.

Nope

I had a female drop her tail a while ago, but she is the only one I have ever had do this. From watching her I would say 2-4 weeks. ⨪

Okay thank you Nick - I bought some wax worms today as well just to try him on that but to be fair I tried about a week ago and he wouldn't even attempt at eating it?? Really weird for me, as my other 2 would eat eachother just to get a wax worm!!

I have an adult that dropped her tail about 3 months ago and it has only grown half way back.................??????? Anyway, I would put some triple antibiotic ointment or Noesporn on it. It will help it heal.

I am so terribly sorry for your loss. We had a very special leo that died from a tail loss as well, I know how you feel.

RIP little one
