One of our females, who had a tail incident in the past where she managed to slither out of someones grip, jump to the floor, and have the tip of her tail twitch like mad, is now in more tail trouble. Her tail calmed down back then, but We take a look at her today, and the tail is reddish like it has a rash on parts, theirs a big cut on the bottom and it looks deflated/dehydrated. All this is part the first 1/4-1/2 inch of tail, the first 1/4-1/2 inch of tail is perfectly fine, fat, colorful, and absent of any cuts or rashes or dehydration/deflation

Im uploading/Resizing/Clearing up the pictures right now so they should follow soon

Any suggestions? Should we carefully amputate that part of the tail so the infection/rash doesnt spread? Should we take her to a vet asap(this could take a few days because of work/weekends)? Or should we do something else. She is housed with another gecko but we are 100% sure he(they do not and never have attempted to breed, they are together because she gets vicious twords humans when alone and so does he.)is not the cause as the wounds look liek nothing any gecko in our care has inflicted before, he has almost no claws to scratch with, and he is a gentle beast unless left alone without human/gecko contact for a long time, which he hasnt been.

All the pictures i took of this were bad and too fuzzy, but the entire bottom of the last inch/half-inch of her tail is totally disgusting with a long cut that got clogged with congealed blood and might be infected. Dilan(the gecko with tail problems) has been steady in her weight and body shape and has had no other health problems besides this.

Im sorry about there being so few pictures but I was nervous and the camera battery was low x-x

Turns out the gash on the bottom fo her tail, after careful cleaning, was just some eco earth stuck on her tail. What looks like bite marks on her tail is also just eco earth, but the red rash is there, and i've discovered more small spots of that, and the end of the tail is blackened and dark, so is another segment of it not far from the end.

After more study of the gecko the end of the tail past the healthy part is all floppy and lined on the sides, she acts as if she doesnt even feel its there except the akward flop every once in a while. If she stops suddenly and it goes in an odd rolled position or is under her body she doesnt even react. If the tail is touched she doesnt react untill its touched about 2 rings(segments) from the healthy part. And when she DOES react to it before the healthy part she acts liek you just stuck her with a hot coal. Further carefull cleaning/study in progress.

The rash is indeed real and not a coloration, parts of where it is has skin worn down showing the under layer of skin. The harmed/rashy parts of the tail are indeed unresponsive and act like memory material when touched/cleaned, leaving an imprint or wrinkle that only goes away when she moved the the aftershock of her normal tail part moving makes the dead/hurt part move.

I think there's a good chance that the last part of the tail will fall off. It wouldn't hurt to take her to the vet, and as long as there's no significant change in her behavior or infection I don't think it's an emergency. I had a gecko where I dropped her bathroom tile on the end of her tail by accident. Her tail shook for a long time and eventually it got stiff and dried out looking and fell off. I called the vet when it happened and they basically said that as long as there was no wound or infection and the gecko was behaving normally it was OK.

The thing is its not drying out or turning black, its just getting red/rashish and the skin flaked off in 2 small spots, and its getting really really floppy like as if everything inside it had turned to pure mush.

It looks and sounds like your gecko's tail has partially severed, which means the nerves and circulation are cut off as well. I suspect that portion of the tail will come off. If it doesn't, or looks like the tissue is becoming necrotic, please take the gecko to a vet and have it amputated to prevent gangrene.

If it makes you feel any better. I had a gecko do the same but a hide fell on her tail and I thought for sure she was going to lose it. And the tip did die enough if fell off with a shed. But even now its kinda just flopping. And nother ever happened. Without me saying that you wouldn't even know. Here she is.....You can tell at about an inch from the end!
