Hello!

I currently have one leopard gecko and I have him set up in a 10 gallon tank. I may need to bring him to college so to save space in my dorm I am wondering if I can set him up in a 5 gallon tank that is tall and put up nets for him to climb around on.. I would put him in the 10 gallon when I come home for breaks. Would this be an okay set up?

Thanks!

Welcome to GF. To be honest, many people feel that even a 10 gallon tank is too small for a leopard gecko. There is some advantage to making a second level; I have a 12"x12" second level in my 20 gallon long tanks, but I think a 5 gallon is too small for another level. Is this your first year at college? Based on what I've seen (I currently have twin boys starting their sophmore year), you would easily have room for a 10 gallon on top of the bureau (unless it's the kind that fits under the bed) or on top of your study carrel. I'd really recommend staying with the 10 gallon.

I kept three 10g tanks in my room sophomore year for my geckos. They are big enough to comfortably house a gecko but small enough to be hidden from your RAs when needed if you're not allowed to have animals in your dorm room :p
