i am now the proud mother of a male panther gecko.
i am open to advice.
he is being kept on paper towel right now, has a humid hide, a warm hide, water dish, mealworm dish and calcium powder with the mealies.
hes about 4 inches long already. very cute though.
thanks ahead of time :)

I was just reading a book on them today, and envy you bigtime. They are so cool and I'm sure you'll enjoy it a plenty. I've had a veiled before, but not a panther... yet. :)

From the very little I know of them so far... humidity is pretty important, temp not so much. I don't know that you need a "hide" for a chameleon. You water them by misting the walls and plants, they don't really drink from a dish. Don't handle as much as a leo, they get stressed easier. Full-spectrum lighting is a must, and sunlight is best if you can get it.

Ah P.Picta those are a really incredible gecko to work with. We have recently aquired quite a collection from various breeders. They are super easy to take care of but are very fragile. They don't react well to alot of stress that a Leopard Gecko could handle. They are more adpt to drop their tails as well. As long as you keep their humidity around the 60% range and their ambient air temps around 75-80 with hot spots no higher then 85-87 they will do great.

Unfortunatly I don't know total size. I have a breeding male and female that are around the 25-35g mark. There isn't a whole lot of data recorded about this species that i'm aware of. You can find bits and pieces but they aren't very reliable. I'm hoping that in the next few years I will have enough credible data to get more people into them.

I have hatched out roughly 12-14 and i'm down to 10. For some reason they seem to just die for no reason. I'm not sure if it was stress or just weak or what. It's quite frustrating cause there's noone to really ask these questions to. Trial and Error will have to be my friend with this project for some time.

I have had a few that were handleable but they are still more jumpy then leopard geckos. I also have never used newspaper or paper towel until recently for mine and they aren't nearly as active as they were. I have kept mine on soil, sand, woodchips, usually a combination of the three to create a gradient of biome for them to choose from. I have never had any problems with impaction. Quite a few of mine have enjoyed misting and licking the water droplets. Good luck with your new little guy!
