but I was picking up crickets at a major pet store today and I peeked into the leopard gecko tank and saw a pitiful looking gecko I feel so sorry for. It was called (don't know if it was male/female) a lucent(sp?) and it was a solid looking light color--almost transparent looking. Really not even attractive. I don't know morphs at all. Anyway, he/she tugged at my heart strings . . it's tail looked regen because it was real short and fat looking. The enclosure was way too small and it looked so traumatized and pitiful.

I have 3 very healthy geckos now (all housed separately in 20 gal long tanks) obtained from a good reputable breeder and I really don't need any more.

BUT, I could possibly muster up a ten gal tank and various spare hides and UTH and really all the stuff it would need . . but I'm just asking for problems, right? Probably sick, infested, who knows . . .I keep telling myself no but then I flash back to her (I feel it's a female) sigh . .

I say get it. Personally, I have a hard time saying no to their little faces.

If it is at one of the two large chains, ask to speak to their, "reptile specialist" (HA!). They will normally knock a large chunk of the price off if you bring up the condition of the animal and show you know what you are talking about.

But, ultimately, it is your choice... If nothing else, you can save it and try to re-home it.

Just keep reading this line over and over.

I agree with Russ, I wouldnt give myself those kinds of problems. Yes I always look at the leos at the pet stores and I always feel so bad... but at the same time, I dont want to buy one and support what they do, and I dont want to spend 100+ for sure in vet bills if I dont have too... Even though Rusty^ would like to save everything in the entire world, lol. I have to keep reminding him too that we just cant save everything...

Write in to the pet store's customer service department (email is on their website). Tell them what terrible shape the Leo was is in and the address/store number. If enough people complain there will be change. If people feel sorry and buy them then management has no idea that anything is wrong. I complained about a chain near us several times and now they use repti-carpet instead of sand, have mealworms in a dish instead of way too big crickets, and all of the Leos were apx. the same size.

Complain and make a difference or buy and give them money to mistreat the next one.

dont buy it. they will just replace it with another gecko and then that gecko will be doomed. its hard but you cant give in and support what they are doing.

sounds like it has a regenreated tail too me, so if you wer to buy it theyd probebly kncok the price down becos of its less attractivness.

theres a bad pet store where i live and i feel sory for all the animals in there but unfortuantly i dont buy them becos it just funds there cruelty inot buying more animlas to abuse.

Ring the RSPCA or Pet Rescue or something
They can get a warrant and do some investigations!

Do you have a space to keep it quarantined away from your other geckos and the ability to provide necessary medical care? If so then it may be worth trying to help, if not you are just asking for trouble.
