okay. I'm getting closer to getting my first leo. Got a 30g tank, uth, hides, dishes. Ohh so close. I have another question. I read some where about a night time temp drop. Do leos need this? I thought I just plugged in the uth and that was it.

Leos dont need a night drop.
But, you need to have a thermostat to control your UTH.
Dont listen to the manufacturers that say you do not need one.
Some folks use rheostats, but they are very unrelieable because they do not account for room temp fluctuations.

For individual terrariums, i use the ReptiTemp 500R to control my uth. It is a on/off type thermostat. It's inexpensive ($22.00 plus shipping) and a extra outlet for a second heat source. It can be purchased from many online stores. The best price i can find is @ reptilesupply.com.

I have both the Repti Temp 500R and the Alife by Newtek. Both work really well, but the Repti Temp does not have a temp dial so you will need to purchase a seperate digital thermometer for accurate temps on the substrate. The Alife actually has a temperature dial on the control and it is cheaper then the Repti-Temp. Of course if you don't trust that temp dial you can still get a digital thermometer and it will still be cheaper.

Hope this helps!:main_cool3:

I use Helix 1000 proportional therms.
I have had several "inexpensive" thems, and they are unreliable.
You get what you pay for, and I would never intrust a $25.00 devise with
the health of my animals.
