Temperature questions

Hi Everyone,

I have a few questions for all the breeders. I am wondering about your opinions on the temperature based color determination. When I cook my eggs this year I will be running Male/Female incubators. I have read and been told that you can bump up the temperature of the females after the sex has been locked in to ensure bright colors. I was never sure about changing the temps in the middle of them "cooking."
I have 2 breeder friends, one does the temperature change and has no problems, but I know of another breeder who attempted it and found birth defects.
So I guess my question is what is your opinion of this practice. Personally I dont think I want to do it, but I was curious how you all feel about it of perhaps your experiences with it.

Not a good idea... Messing with temps during incubation will reliably yeild deformed hatchlings and your hatch rate will decrease as a result as well... Is it really worth it???

If you want to produce really colorful hatchlings, you need to start out with really colorful breeders... Ones whos genetics make them colorful, not screwing with incubation temps during mid incubation...

Also who is your "breeder" friend... I want to make sure I dont buy from him/her... I want animals that are genetically pretty, not ones whos incubation was messed with in order to make them pretty...

Well like Gregg stated it can cause deformities and will reduce your hatch rate. Ethically if your planning on selling these animals you are going to be cheating people by inducing the color with temps instead of having nice genetics.
Just get a pair of great looking breeders and you should produce nice looking babies without messing with the temperatures.

Like i said before dont do it . You will hatch out nice babies with changing the temps . But the geckos lose the color when thay turn in to adults. Just keep the nicer ones and breed back .
