Temporary Loss of Appetite, No Behavior Changes?

I bought a healthy leo (my first one) about a month and a half ago from my pet store. I work at a large chain and kept a close eye on her for around two months before purchase. I'm unsure of her age but if I had to guess I'd say around 1 year, she's about 6-7" long. I also don't know her weight because I don't have a scale, but her tail is pretty plump and she has a nice round belly.

First, let me explain my concerns:

About two weeks ago she looked VERY listless. Walked all over her cage, looked out the side of the glass... back and forth, back and forth, all day long. During this, she also went from eating 8-10 1" crickets a day down to 1-2 within a day's time. The next day she stopped entirely. She continued being incredibly active, but did not eat again for about one week. After that week long period, she suddenly accepted food readily again on this last Saturday.

I might also point out she shed on Friday. Is her loss of appetite because of her shed? I just find this strange because I bought her when she was about 4" long and she's gone through a total of 4 sheds with me, and has never stopped eating before the previous ones.

Another thing I'm concerned about... I was wondering if it's possible for geckos to lay "virgin" eggs? They'd be infertile, of course. But she has not mated with anybody, and her belly *looks* a bit distended (I may be imagining it, see the picture below). If I hold her up and look at her belly, she looks like she may have "eggs" in the normal areas eggs should be, but they are not an oval shape. There's two of them, and they're a bit round, like a marble, but a millimeter or two smaller in size. She has had these two white shapes for ~2 weeks or so. I think I first noticed them 2 weeks ago. Since this is my first gecko I'm not sure if this is normal or not, even though I looked up all the pictures I could online.

There has been absolutely no change in her behavior other than her listlessness during her eating strike. She's as bright-eyed as ever, poops every day, looks totally healthy with the exception of her little bulgy stomach. Perhaps her stomach is just her filling out into her adult-female shape?... She isn't lumpy at all, her stomach just hangs down a tad when she walks.

Here's some information about her cage setup:

20g long reptile, UTH, hot side stays between 89-91 degrees depending on the time of day, cold side stays between 78-80. Calcium in a dish available 24/7, mealworms available in a dish (she doesn't seem to like eating them from a dish), moist hide that's kept moist and stays on the hot side. Plenty of things to crawl on! Crickets/mealies dusted on every feeding...

Here's a picture of her when she was about an inch shorter than she is now. You can kind of see the belly bulge. She didn't like the camera flash :( By chance can any of you tell me what morph of gecko she is? I'm new to all the morph stuff and I've been curious!

Thanks guys. Sorry for the rant, wanted to throw as much info out there as I could.

WELL, i guess if anyone answers your question before mine it'll give me my answer haha. I have basically all you just said but I left out a bit. Hope we find out what's up with our Leos.

Her loss of appetite could be due to her shed, but also could be due to her ovulating. Perhaps she wants to breed. I know that our females get very restless during the breeding season, and this is pretty normal behavior. The white spots that you describe sound like the follicles that are visible when they are ovulating too, so I would say that's exaclty what's going on and she is perfectly fine :main_yes: Just acting a bit differently due to her hormones ;)

And yes, virgin females can lay infertile eggs. They normally reabsorb them, but it's been known to happen.

Welcome to GeckoForums :)

Phew! That's good to know. I did a ton of research before I bought her, but I'm a worrywart, and until I've had personal experience with behaviors in animals I tend to think something is horribly wrong :embarassed:

Thank you so much for the reply!

That's awesome that you did so much research, it sounds like everything else you are doing is perfect :D I tend to worry a lot too about things, so I know how it feels.
Take care!
