Temps

Ok I have 2 hovabators, but right now i just have my newest one up and running. I have 4.5 oz deli cups in there(empty for now) I have 2 20 oz water bottles to help regulate the heat some. I have the thermometer that came with the incubator, and I also got a digital one today with a probe so I can read the temps better.

Right now I am trying to get it nice and toasty and the right temp for this one I want it at 84 degrees. I had the thermometer that came with it, sitting on top of the deli cups, and the probe for the digi, in the middle on the wire mesh. The normal thermometer was reading 92 degrees on top of the cups(understandable since it would be closer to the heat) but the probe was reading 80.

My question is. Where would it be the best place to get the most accurate reading?

I put mine in the deli cup that I plan on using to incubate. I actually went and did a "mock-egg-incubation" and used the Perlite and water to make sure everything was ready for the eggs when they come...

I ended up needing an external proportional thermostat instead of the one that comes with the Hovabator. If yours is in a spot in your house where there's very little temperature fluctuation then you might be okay, but it's good to experiment and keep a log of the temperatures at least 2 or 3 times a day. Mine went all the way from 79-84.4 degrees, and with the external thermostat, it only ranges from 81-82, if it does fluctuate.

That is what I am afraid I will have to end up doing. Which it isn't to bad, as the cost of them have came down some.

Yeah, I will probably do what you do. Just put the prob in a mock cup and leave that cup as a mock cup.

I do not have eggs yet, but I need to be ready.
