terrified!

i was so terrified when i discovered what i did when i went to my house for lunch. my gravid tremper albino was stuck half ways inside her moist hide. she couldnt get out of the hole in the lid she was stuck. it was very dramatic and she would not go backward through the hole. it was against her natural instinct. i tried a few things which all failed until my final resort, lotion. i rubbed her down and the edges of the hole. put her on my tanks lid so she could use her claws on the screen and help pull herself out. thank god she managed to free herself. these hide rocks are not a good idea for chubby geckos. i will post a picture of the hide when i get home. i hope she wasnt like that for too long. if i didnt go home for lunch to find her that way it could have been 3 or more hours till i got home. i was very sad she went through all this. my last post was more descriptive and even longer but somehow it was erased when the forums logged me out automatically. ill post the pic soon.

this was very scary to me since its never happened before. my last resort if i couldnt get her out was to try and cut it. that would have been super difficult as well.

The box of these hides don't represent well the size of the hole, if I had know when I bought one I would have gone with the larger model. It will work for now, but I was worried about the same thing you experienced:(

I have a couple of those hides in tanks of leo's I don't breed. I noticed the size of the hole was too small when I bought it so I took a jigsaw and just cut a bigger hole. It worked perfectly.

ya it was very scary. she looked scared too. i was worried because i thought if she had been like that for too long she would have swelled on both ends and she would not have a chance of getting through. if i had to cut it or something like that im sure she may have dropped her tail or really freaked from the saw. i almost felt hopeless, it took about 20 mins to get her out. Okee Reps you said you used a jigsaw to make your holes bigger. was it the same type of material or box? i was thinking the thick plastic was hollow and it would probably leave a rough finish. can you post a pic of how it came out? maybe ill modify all of mine.

It's not hollow. I have the exo terra snake cave. I painted mine to match the tank I built but here is the lid that I modified.
