We have a tiny 2nd instar B.jacksoni that I have to use the black light in order to find. Blends in with the Eco-Earth perfectly.

Last I read on the subject, a lot of experts seem to think it is to lure in prey. They reflect the UV light, therefore glowing. Many insects and other small prey items are phototactic, meaning they are attracted to light. It makes sense to me! I'm sure there are about 100 different theories out there though :)

hey that makes sence to me too. i guess with better site in the dark they would pick up on the glowing better than we can. seeings how the light off the moon is UV they probably glow to other animals.

I have no idea what causes them to glow. I've only seen it in scorpions. Is there other inverts that have the same reaction under black light?

Some of you may find this interesting. As for the reasoning behind scorpions fluorescence, there hasn't been anything substantiated. And any rumors flying around out there are just that, rumors.
