The male doesn't know what to do

I have a bit of a problem: my first time breeder doesnąt know how to approach females. They are ovulating and he is interested. He wags his tail allright but then he doesn't bite or try to get on the females. He just stares at them and sometimes goes around them.
He is a year old and a big boy, I have never encountered such a problem- other males were behaving perfectly allright.

I tried to put females in his container and to put him into females container - every time the same behaviour. He has 4 females to choose from, and does no approaches to any of them.

how long are you keeping them together? I noticed this with my normal male, but the female actually made the move... she walked right up to him and lifted her tail, then... I'd just keep them together for a day or so, and see what happens.

I am keeping them together for a week, than seperate. I repeat after a couple of days and so on. I am observing females, but no eggs forming in their abdomens, so there is still no breeding .

Could be that the guy doesn't like the gals that you picked for him. Right, Madden;):)

Is it possible that the male is just too young? All the females are ovulating (I've checked today) but he still just wags, nothing more ;(

I'm curious to see how this works out. I've got a male whose in his first breeding season now too (he's a year and a half) and he doesn't even seem interested in the girls I put with him! There isn't even any tail wagging. I have him housed semi-permanently with my favorite female now and I've been periodically checking her for any bite marks or (albeit a feeble, hopeful attempt) for any forming eggs. Nothing.

I'm a little stumped about this male's behavior. My female's even been approaching him, lifting her tail, etc. It's like he doesn't really care to breed.

All went out well after all- he got the idea how "it" is done and I have all my females impregnated. But what's funny- he still confuses which part of female is which and always tries the ritual from head to tail, than turns around and do this properly :)
