A few weeks ago, I took in my third Leopard gecko ..a rescue... with severe eye issues and a little malnourished, too. Each one of her toes is badly and permanently damaged from bad sheds, as well.

I decided to give her a pretty name, after a desert flower... Cleome Lutea ..hoping to give her some extra something for recovery.

Within a week of daily saline flushes and antibiotics applied to her really bad eye, she improved to open eyes ..no gobs of booger covering her eye ..no sunken in eyes ..no gross smell! She blinks and winks those eyes like my other 2 girls ..healthy and observant.

She's also eating a lot more ..even getting her bugs on her own, rather than me hand feeding her with tongs on the "good" eye side.

All of this is great.. right? Of course, it is!

...but the little wench decided to show me how good she's feeling, so while I was in her tank the other night ..checking on her first shed in my care... she flipped and latched onto my middle finger and was tearing into me like you'd expect from a large monitor with prey. LOL :main_evilgrin: I have a perfect little teeth set embedded on my finger now ..and I'm pretty sure she didn't appreciate my giggling while she was trying to devour me.. she stood at full alert with tail whipping, once I got my hand free! :p

I'm soo glad she feels so much better ..and she's improved and seems to have saved some sight in her really bad eye... but I am concerned that she's not happy with me for whatever reason (having therapy and meds applied daily isn't fun) and she's going to be pissy from now on.

She may lighten up after a little while of being better.
She was only seeing you with one eye, so you might still be a stranger to her in a sense.
Give her time to get to know you and to see that you mean her no harm and she will probably get better.

Do you know how she got into such bad condition before you adopted her?

Maybe she just finally has the strength to tell you how much she hates you putting medicine in her eye! It's also possible that she's feeling better and her appetite is increasing. We have one little gecko that's always hungry no matter how often I feed her. I have to be careful putting food in because she's gotten my fingers before. Hopefully it was an isolated incident!

LOL, even though they are doing something they shouldn't it makes ya feel good. If they have the strength to bite then they are feeling better.

Thanks everyone! :)

I deal with a few bitey kids here, so I am used to it ..somewhat.. and actually welcome it cuz it is a good sign (in most cases) that they are improving, healthwise.

Since I named her after a flower, originally ..I think I will stick with that theme and call her Seymour now :p
