I saw mention of the book today, and pulled it off the shelf for another look through. He's got tons of beautiful shots of several morphs...and some that are a bit - funny - like the emerald shots. But those aren't what irked me. The pictures of the normal patty and blizzards are awful! Both of the geckos used are murky colored at best...FAR from the prime examples that he used for the other morphs featured. THEN, skip a few pages he's got a TREMPER PA and BB and they're stunning. GRRRR. Ok...not a proper description of what's annoying me, but I bet some of you know!!

Next person to make a book on leos - PLEASE have good representations of ALL morphs ... not just the ones that make YOU look good.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Tremper is a marketing and business person well before being a leo breeder. And he's very, very good at it. I always thought he was (or perhaps now is) in it for the business and not for the animals.

I can't say anything for sure, but his marketing and business decisions certainly make him appear that way.

To me its all perception is it a bad photo or of a bad rep of the morph?

Ive never seen nor care to see the book but Normal Pattys and Blizzards don't always look so great, they get dark and ugly. The ones Ive seen as hatchlings look pretty good btu as they age many look dark and not so niec.

Maybe he did represent his accordingly, to show their true outcome and not just as nice bright hatchlings.

What he SHOULD have done was talk to Marcia! Her pattys and blizzards (when you manage to catch them before they're sold) are awesome.

The photographs themselves are fine...they are just poor representations of the morph. He made darn sure to get good reps of the other morphs, especially the ones he's involved in, so why not these?

Besides the morph section; there's still good stuff in the book. I actually pre-ordered it and am glad I did. Like you though, I was disappointed by the morph guide.

I personally liked page 86, bottom left photo. JMO:D

I will have to check out that page when I get home.

I liked the book, the information part of it at least. MOST of the pictures look like they were taken under special lighting though :main_no:

I liked the genetics part because it's quite well explained, and also the disease section because there's not many information about that here, nor many exotic vets. But I didn't like the morphs section too much, and the husbandry section was too basic.

Which other books about leos do you recommend buying? We should make a new thread about this if it doesn't exist yet.

Well, that's one way you could read that, OR you could read it this way...

"There are slim pickings right now, but I'm going to have better looking leos in the summer that are more expensive, so start saving your money now!"

He is nothing if not a business man...he does everything with the bottom line in mind, and that's how he makes a living. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but thinking that he's not in it for the money is nieve. That's why he had a marketing plan...why he released APTORS, then when prices started to fall released the RAPTORS to keep people drooling. He may not have had ANY leos available at the time you asked him...but he left you with the feeling that he's looking out for you to ensure you come back when there is something available - and that's the calling card of a great businessman/sales person. I've yet to see ANYTHING he does that would indicate that it's NOT 100% business to him. I'm sure he enjoys it...but that's what really good business people do, they find an area of interest and run with it and make it work.
