There's Something Weird Going On...

Now, before I get my head bitten off, this isn't your typical "my gecko won't eat" story.

I have a roughly 4 year old SHT tremper albino male. He is normally quite the pig, but the past few months, I've seen rapid decreases in appetite, but no weight loss at all. I've heard of the "brumation" periods for males where they typically go off of food for a few weeks or so, but this has been going on for around 2 and a half months, give or take a few weeks.

Up until the past month, I would see him go to his dish about once a week and eat two or three mealworms, or see two or three mealworms missing. Now, I do not see him go at all, see any worms missing, or even acknowledge any sort of food item. I've tried feeding him crickets, wax worms, super worms, mealworms, and even some mealworm pupae just to see if making them wiggle would stimulate his appetite, but still nothing. I've ruled out parasites and impaction, because when he does poop, its very normal looking, and when I take him out he is still very active and alert. He is very brightly colored, and his stomach is still very soft, and not hard as it would be if he was impacted. I also keep him on paper towels, and keep the tanks clean. But once again, I monitor his weight and he has not lost any weight whatsoever, and his tail is still thick as ever. He has never been a "fat" gecko, just stocky and lean on his body, and I've seen no changes to that at all either(no "thin" looks, ribcage or spine showing, etc.).

What else could be causing this lack of appetite? Could he just be going through a "cool down" period and isn't too interested in food at the time? Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated :)

Many of my geckos nearly stop eating around now. I think they just hit the "off" button a few days ago. It's not unusual. As long as the gecko is maintaiing weight (some of mine do lose a few grams in the process) and activity it's not worth worrying about. Just keep offering. You can also check out the article I wrote about the yearly leopard gecko cycle at my house: http://www.geckotime.com/the-yearly-cycle-with-geckos/
