Thermostat Question

Hey folks, minor question:

So it's only a few days to go until my leo arrives. I've gotten everything ready and in order. My digital thermometer was ordered by a friend who had to make an online order anyway, so she'll bring it when she brings the leo.

I got the Zoo Med Repti Temp 500R thermostat for my 10 gallon and the UTH. I looked at several types of thermostats, and figured this was the most affordable for me as a casual pet owner. There were some really nice thermostats out there but they were all really out of my budget range so to speak and I'm saving up for a visionarium.

So anyway ... where does the sensor probe go? On top of the paper towels, under the paper towels? I've got my UTH plugged into the thermostat, but want to know where I have to put the probe to make sure the heat stays constant.

I would say on the warm side (you should have 2...but if one i guess it would just be warm side)...and i dont think it should matter on the heat...i would do it under so you measure the 100% ground temperature. just my guess thought.

Congrats on your new leo! :)
Is this your first one?

Probes should go to top of your substrate, where your leos belly is.

You can just use a small piece of tape (if you want to) to tape it to the paper towel. Just make sure your leo cant get stuck to it!

Dont forget to provide a temp gradient so he/she can regulate how much warmth they want.

Have you thought of a name for him/her yet? :)

Feel free to PM me if you have other questions and dont feel like plowing through 1000 posts to find answers. I will try to help :main_yes:

P.S. welcome to the forum BTW! :D

Thanks muchly!

Yep, this would be my first leo. I'm awfully excited because i think they're just neat! I haven't picked a name yet, but I know he's male, and I saw his baby picture, but the more recent picture was mostly of his belly. So I think I'll be waiting to see what he looks like in person before I name him.

Got the heat gradient planned. It won't be super fabulous with a 10 gallon, but once I get my visionarium (which is the same size as a 20L) it'll be super. I think though, with the thermostat, I should be able to keep the gradient about 8-10 degrees between the warm and the cool side.
