Kept hot and well fed. Shouldn't be too long before this one really starts to put on size.

they are known to get to 9 feet

they are just like a dog if tame but are not always prodictable the best way to keep them once fully grown is convert a whole room to that animal

Monitors are never tame. They are tolerant of you. You have to meet them on their terms. This one was out last night since I was changing out the substrate. I let it crawl onto me. I never force it to be picked up. You have to build trust. It is starting to see me as the bringer of food and not a threat so it's natural curiosity is kicking in and it is coming over to me more and more.
This is an ornate nile. Different than the common nile. It gets smaller in total length than the niloticus but bulkier. Ornatus comes from a forest habitat. They are also not as defensive as common niles.

In Africa, they STEAL and eat alligator eggs along the river banks,
that should give you a little hint how aggressive and fearless they are :main_laugh:

That is Varanus niloticus - the common nile.
This is Varanus ornatus - the ornate nile.

There are 2 seperate types of nile monitors.
The common nile comes from the river bank habitat and is very nervous in captivity.
The ornate nile comes from a forest habitat and is far less nervous in captivity.

All monitors need to be treated with respect but not all niles can be lumped together.
