My best friend introduced me to one of his friends about 2 months ago. This mutual friend breeds snakes and beardies but also breeds leopard geckos on a small scale. I went to this mutual friends house the other day and was checking out his leos. Well what I saw was deplorable. His leopard geckos are kept in cages that look like they are never cleaned. He stated that they are cleaned every other day but there is now way they are. The mealies in the dishes are black. This leads me to believe that these gecko cages are cleaned maybe once a few weeks. I had made a comment once about this (as nice as I knew how) and one of the other guys that is a helper got pissed at me. This is a situation that I am kind of stuck. These guys know my disgust when I go there but the conditions do not change. You try to tell them but they say I read this or I read that in a book. The bottom line is this. I dont care what they read, what works- works period. I have geckos that are 2 months old that are bigger than some of theirs at 1 year old. I have let my best friend know many times how bad this pisses me off! If you are going to have an animal take care of it! They did not ask to be caged the best we can do is make there life the healthiest and best we can. If anyone has suggestions on how I should go about changing this (without turning the whole thing into a catastrophe let me know... Thanks, Dave... :main_angry::

I would handle that in the most mautre way any other adult would. First I would put my ninja suit on. Second i would spy on him and wait for him to leave. Third I'd break in with a potatoe sack. Fourth put geckos in potatoe sack and run like jesus

He doesn't deserve the geckos then if he can't take care of them. I like the ninja leo saving potato sack run like jesus idea.

The sad reality is The guy that owns the place does care. It is his buddy Mr. no it all that does not. He tries to tell me he cleans the cages every other day. I am not stupid and I know by looking at a cage how long it has been. I clean cages every other day and My cages are still very clean when I clean them so this guy is full of it. I think I am going to e mail him to tell him what I think.

Is there people you can call? Like when dogs get mistreated, there are people who come and help...right? Or is that just kids...?

I thought they had something like that for pets or am I just making stuff up?

Well there should be people to call like that >:O
Where they get their mistreated animals taken away, and the people that actually take good care of their pets don't get penalized for others mistakes and end up causing stupid bills to be passed like Haligren mentioned.

I just e mailed the guy and told him how I felt. We will see what happens but I am sure he will kick his buddy to the curb when he realizes the care they are getting. . In a short summary I informed him that his hatchlings did not stand a chance with the care they are in..

I think you handled it very well actually. You have brought this to the attention of the keeper and your friend. You have offered all types of suggestions. Great job.
At this point, I don't know if there is anything else you could constructively do other than to offer the person your Email/phone number in the event they would like to call you for assistance.

One other obvious suggestion- mention this site to the keeper.
